SCYO About Us

The Sunshine Coast Youth Orchestra (SCYO) is a not-for-profit organisation established in 1989, providing exciting and vibrant educational orchestral experiences, to further extend the musical opportunities of talented young musicians through weekly rehearsals and regular workshops, an annual music camp and performances. Our members –up to the age of 23 - come from all over the Sunshine Coast and Hinterland, and range in ability from 12 months experience, through AMEB Grade 2 up to AMEB Grade 8 standard and beyond. We have an expanding number of groups: Youth Symphony, Chamber Strings, Sinfonia Strings, Amati Strings, Wind Ensemble (Concert Band), Stage Band, and Youth Band. We rehearse each Wednesday evening during school term at our permanent home Mountain Creek State High School.

Performances:
The SCYO is the Sunshine Coast's premier orchestra for youth. Each group is available for formal or informal occasions; to provide entertainment for special events, festivals, charity events, community fundraisers, expos conventions, grand finals, and more.

Requirements:
The string ensembles require an indoor or under cover area if performing outdoors.
Preference is for weekend performances due to school age of members and availability of conductors.
Performances in school holidays are possible but require acceptable amount of time to gain permission from parents, organize and plan extra rehearsals.

Special Occasions:
It is possible to form smaller groups such as wind/ string quartets or quintets. This requires an acceptable amount of time to organize for rehearsal.
