Clare Deady

Musical Director and Conductor - Concert Orchestra 

Clare has a long association with the Sunshine Coast Youth Orchestra. Clare joined the orchestra as a student and was a playing member for two years. Clare attended the University of Queensland completing a Bachelor of Music (Education). Clare began conducting the Wind Ensemble in 2000. 

Clare is an Instrumental Music teacher with Education Queensland. She hopes the students find their involvement in SCYO as rewarding as she does with conducting and musical direction.

Clare's principal instrument is the French Horn and she plays in a number of orchestras and ensembles both in Brisbane and on the Sunshine Coast.

Steven Lake

Conductor – SCYO String Orchestra 

Steven began teaching in 1991 at Clifton SHS as a Classroom Music and Science teacher. He was then transferred to Kepnock SHS in Bundaberg four years later. Steven traveled overseas for two years during an extended leave break and on his return took up the Head of Music role at St Luke’s Anglican School, where he stayed until 2002. Since then, Steven has been the Music Coordinator at Immanuel Lutheran College, although 2008 has seen him teach part-time and become a Resort Manager.

He has conducted Choirs, Stage and Concert Bands, String Ensembles, Brass Bands and several Community Orchestras. Steven have been involved with both the Bundaberg Youth Orchestra and Sunshine Coast Youth Orchestra for many years and enjoys continued contact with students of many different ages and backgrounds.

Calvin Hunter

Conductor – SCYO Wind Ensemble

Calvin is an instrumental music teacher with Education Queensland working at Mountain Creek State High School, Sunshine Beach State High School and Meridan State College.  With over 20 years experience playing and teaching, Calvin hopes to make music enjoyable and rewarding for the band members.  “Having fun is a very important ingredient in the success of a band.”  He not only helps to build confidence within a musical sense, but also in helping with leadership positions within the ensemble, thus, helping the musicians to grow, whilst enjoying themselves.

Adrian King

Guest Conductor – SCYO Concert Orchestra

English conductor, Adrian King, moved to the Sunshine Coast a few years ago and bought with him a wealth of experience and skills in conducting major works. Adrian guest conducts for the SCYO Concert Orchestra when his busy schedule permits. Members benefit from exposure to a different style of conducting and his wealth of experience in presenting and expressing different styles of music through an orchestra. Adrian also works with the Noosa Chorale, Noosa Sinfonia and soloists to put together outstanding performances on the Sunshine Coast.

Adrian received his musical training at the Guildhall School of Music, London specialising in Singing, Conducting, Piano and French Horn. He was also awarded an L.T.C.L from the Trinity College of Music, London.

Wendy Russell and Allison Nicholson

Conductors – SCYO Recorder Ensemble

Wendy is a parent of two playing members in the Orchestra. As a music teacher, Wendy saw an opportunity for a new ensemble within the orchestra to add an extra dimension to students' musical development and performance experience.

Allison brings her playing skills and experience to work with Wendy in developing the Recorder Ensemble.

Andrew Paszkowski

Conductor – SCYO Senior Strings

Andrew started with the Orchestra in 2001 as a temporary conductor and enjoyed the experience so much he stayed on - much to the benefit of the orchestra. Andrew is a local medical specialist with a passion for music. He played violin in the Australian Youth Orchestra when a student. 

Andrew has played and continues to play in a range of orchestras and ensembles both in Brisbane and here on the Sunshine Coast.
