Auditions

Auditions

Each year, the Sunshine Coast Youth Orchestra invites applicants for places in each ensemble. This is via an audition process held around October of the previous year. Places are then offered for the following year. SCYO has ensembles to suit musicians at most musical standards.

SCYO will also consider musicians joining throughout the year. All considerations are at the discretion of the music director and conductors of the ensembles. Please contact the Director of Music, Maria Salmon, at maria@scyo.org.au if you need more information.

SCYO is a non-profit organisation that provides orchestral music opportunities for young musicians up to 23 years of age. It is the Sunshine Coast community’s premier orchestra for youth, drawing talented musicians from across the Sunshine Coast and Hinterland to play music at a high standard.

Audition Process for 2017
Firstly, book an audition time slot or slots that suit at http://scyo.fullslate.com/ . Pre-prepare your audition pieces below. At the audition, musicians generally need to present a prepared sight reading piece and/or a short piece of their own choosing. Note that Amati and Concert Band only need to prepare a piece of their own choice - no sight reading piece will be required.

Auditions for 2017 will be held over the weekend of October 15th and 16th at Mountain Creek State High School, Mountain Creek.

Ensembles in 2017

The SCYO offers the following ensembles in 2017

Please see the current ensemble list here. There is always the potential for extra ensembles to be created to respond to musicians needs, depending on availability of conductors.

Involvement

Acceptance of a place in any SCYO group is a serious commitment for the entire year!
Before accepting a place you must consider carefully your ability to attend all Wednesday night rehearsals, weekend concerts, tutorials, workshops and other activities. An orchestra cannot group together to perform at a high standard unless all its members reliably participate.

Parental Involvement
If you regularly have time spare on a Wednesday night, help in everyday SCYO activities is greatly appreciated as SCYO operates with parent volunteers. Many jobs are done by parents on a Wednesday night including planning concerts and other SCYO events. Parent information meetings also occur on a Wednesday night, usually once per term.

Parents are responsible for ensuring musicians attend all SCYO events and for collecting musicians promptly from events.
