Profile of the Sunshine Coast Youth Orchestra

Formed in 1989, Sunshine Coast Youth Orchestra (SCYO) is a non-profit organisation that provides orchestral music opportunities for young musicians up to 23 years of age. It is the Sunshine Coast community’s premier orchestra for youth, drawing talented musicians from across the Sunshine Coast and Hinterland to play music at a higher level than available in many school-based programs.

SCYO actively supports school music programs by extending musicians skills and encouraging all members to play in school music groups.

Each year SCYO organises regular performances at a wide variety of venues, workshop activities with other orchestras, and an annual weekend music camp. SCYO rehearses weekly on Wednesday nights during State school terms at Mountain Creek State High School, where we currently have a long-term lease agreement.

SCYO is managed by a volunteer parent group.
